Merry Christmas!
This word girl is pondering the one word which I think sums up the Christmas season. There are many words that describe this time: “light,” “family,” or “giving.” Yet, I think the word best used to scoop up this time of year and box it with a bow is the word “JOY”.
Joy is contagious and can be shared. We share joy in sending picture cards, dropping off Angel Tree donations, or baking cookies for our neighbors. However, if not even one person sent cards or gave gifts, we would still have reason for joyfulness. Christmas, at its core, is the joy that shines from Jesus coming to the world. The humbleness of the greatest King coming to be Immanuel (which means God with us) is our cause for joy. He came as a baby with the mission to bring Heaven to earth. His arrival showed us what God is like. Bringing God near sparks this delight we share at Christmas.
I pray your Christmas brims over with the fullness of joy. However you choose to celebrate, remember the little baby King in a manager and anticipate His mighty return.
